The TIA Portal add-on package SIMATIC STEP 7 Safety Basic / Advanced offers a wide range of persuasive new engineering features and supports the extended portfolio of S7-1500F and S7-1200F.

STEP 7 Safety Basic V16 is the add-on package for parameter assignment and programming of the fail-safe S7-1200.

STEP 7 Safety Advanced V16 is the add-on package for all fail-safe TIA SIMATIC controller classes (S7-1500, S7-1200, S7-1500 Software Controller, S7-300, S7-400, WinAC).

One Setup

As of TIA Portal V16, STEP 7 Safety is delivered with STEP 7 Professional and WinCC Advanced in a shared installation and together with STEP 7. This means products can be installed more easily and faster, and STEP 7 Safety is available for immediate use providingthe corresponding license is available. Delivery includes SIMATIC STEP 7 V16.
The desired licenses for STEP 7 Safety must still be purchased separately under the
corresponding article numbers.

Openness enhancements

The range of available Openness functionalities is continuously being extended, which is also the case with STEP 7 Safety V16.

Version Control Interface (VCI) – Support

The new Version Control Interface (VCI) is now also available for fail-safe blocks. It enables the connection of external versioning tools. A graphical user interface offers easy operation, integrated block comparison via UI or by connecting third-party tools.

Openness with set F-password

So far, Openness could be used until the F-Engineering password (offline password) was set. As of this moment, the Openness functionalities were locked for the safety related hardware and software components, and the Openness functionalities could only be released again by deleting the F-Engineering password.
As of Safety V16, users can authenticate themselves with the F-Engineering password and thus use the Openness functionality once again.

F-SCALE – Scaling in the DINT output area

The new F-SCALE block allows for fail-safe scaling of encoder values between 0 … 27648 to an output value range in the DINT area. The large value range enables, for example, scaling for large distances and weights. The new block prevents time-consuming application solutions that take a long time to compile and require a lot of runtime.

Investment protection

Starting from STEP 7 Safety V13 SP1, projects can be upgraded directly to STEP 7 Safety V16.

Projects from older versions of STEP 7 Safety (V11 to V13) are updated based on STEP 7 Safety Advanced V13 SP1 or V13 SP2 (most recent update recommended).

Important note::
TIA Portal project versions V13 SP1 to V15.1 are upgraded to project version V16 with TIA Portal V16. If you must work with a TIA Portal project version V13 SP1 to V15.1, we recommend that you also install the corresponding software additional to TIA Portal V16.

The license purchased for V16 is also valid for all older TIA Portal versions.

S7 Distributed Safety V5.4 SP5 projects can be migrated to STEP 7 Safety Advanced V16 by migrating the program code and hardware configuration.
